Barry Making Waves project displays postcard work online – Barry and District News

A PROJECT aimed at rebranding Barry has moved its postcard work online while the coronavirus pandemic makes an impact world-wide.

The Barry: Making Waves project, launched in the town in 2019, is part of the Sense of Place programme of work which was awarded £252,000 of Heritage Lottery funding as part of the Great Place Scheme.

The project aims to promote the use of culture and heritage as driving forces to help make Barry even greater.

With the aim of promoting investment in place-based regeneration, the initiatives include setting up a Barry Place Board, made up of local businesses, community representatives and third sector organisations.

Place manager (Barry), Mererid Velios said: “We decided to take our postcard project almost digital.

“Having worked with the Barry Hookers, Art Central Friends, and the Young Carers Youth Club with various workshops using copies of vintage Barry postcards as a starting point, we decided that though we can’t organise any more workshops at the moment, we could create packs to send people at home.”

She added: “Each pack contains some postcards that can be sewed into, painted over, a sheet of paper for lockdown stories, a crossword puzzle and badge (as well as an instruction sheet).

“We’d love people to then share their work on social media, Twitter @BarryValeofGlam and Instagram @barryvaleofglam and use #barrymakingwaves, or they can photograph their work and email it to us.”
