Council’s online skills academy | News and Star – News & Star

A back to work project for Copeland residents will go digital in light of the Covid-19 health crisis.

The Copeland Work and Skills Partnership will host their Sector Based Work Academies online to keep participants and tutors safe.

The courses which prepare people for training in different industries will be trialled in the care sector.

Copeland Borough Council decided to first host the first academy in the care sector due to an increase in vacancies in domiciliary care and care homes.

Health and safety, safeguarding, food hygiene and protecting against the spread of Covid-19 will all be covered in the online training.

Copeland council work and skills officer Chris Pickles said: “We had already completed one of the academies through remote learning, as it had begun before lockdown.

“Now we have managed to design this whole course to be delivered digitally.

“This means businesses can get on with planning and recruiting, and participants can use this time to increase their skills and get ready for the jobs market.”

The council’s Work and Skills Partnership aim to help employers recruit people with the ability to progress in the role.
