5 Summer Dress Outfits for Working From Home – Vogue

As we continue our social-distancing pledge, the Vogue staff is working from home for the foreseeable future. This article is part of our This Week on Zoom column, where one Vogue editor shares their WFH outfits from the previous workweek—from the waist up, of course.

I’ve never been a morning person. While I envy those who can conquer morning workouts and start their day without a drop of caffeine, my brain requires at least 16 ounces of coffee as soon as I wake up in order to function properly, and my alarm is usually set to the last minute that I can sleep in. As a result, my morning routine has been optimized to maximize efficiency. My secret weapon to getting dressed quickly and decisively has been one summer staple: day dresses.

Day dresses offer quick one-step solutions to outfit conundrums. They’re easy, comfortable, flattering, and versatile. When I put one on, I’m in “starting the day” mode, even when the temptation to lie at home in pajamas is overwhelming. While day dresses were a convenient office-friendly strategy, they’ve also proven to translate easily to my work-from-home setup, especially on days when I have several Zoom video calls that require polish. And when the workday is over, there is no need to change. Day dresses are perfect for a long walk around the city or a socially distanced picnic in the park, especially when New York summers can get hot and humid.

As I recently passed my 100-day mark of working from home, I would estimate that at least 50 of those days have been spent in day dresses. Below, I’ve chronicled a look at my new normal from my apartment in Manhattan.

Monday

My getting-dressed strategy is dictated by the amount of Zoom meetings I have, and Mondays are always the busiest. I love the statement puff sleeves on this floral maxi Dôen dress, which adds a touch of whimsy and drama. I paired it with silver shell earrings, which my hair covers half the time because I’ve been letting it grow out during quarantine. Since New York has been rainy, I’ve been relying on my trusty Hunter rain boots for whenever I have to step outside.
