Colleges, businesses must adapt as remote jobs become the new normal – News 12 Westchester

The world of working remotely is giving job seekers a host of new opportunities that didn’t exist before the pandemic, leaving some college officials to look at ways learning might need to change.

Sarah Lawrence College, for example, is looking for virtual event producers, since Zoom is now used all the time.

Dr. Michael Baston, president of Rockland Community College, says there are jobs such as a Zoom caster, a person who will help organizations conduct presentations for large audiences. Baston says that wasn’t a job before the pandemic.

Indeed, one of the leading job search platforms, tells News 12 that since February, the job postings for remote work or remote options has increased 104%.

As the job landscape changes, Baston says learning needs to adapt as well.

“Educational institutions need to prepare students for this new range of opportunities,” says Baston.

RCC’s Career Skills Academy, a fast-track certification program, is already pushing new courses for the remote workforce. The program prepares people in just 15 weeks for a new chapter.

“Now is the time,” says Penny Jennings, executive director of Strategic Initiatives. “People are home. People have lost their jobs, But I look at it, it is a reset.”
