In North Karnataka, online classes after mom or dad return from work – Times of India

HAVERI: In several districts of north Karnataka, government schools are holding online classes late evening as students depend on their parents for learning gadgets and can log in only after they return from work. Primary and high school teachers said they are conducting classes from 7pm to 9.30pm in the week so that more students can participate.
“Most of our students come from labourers’ families and their parents cannot buy separate smartphones for their children,” said Manjunath Kudari, who teaches at a government higher primary school in Handiganur village of Haveri district. “To help these students, we are conducting online classes when their parents return home after work in the evening.”
“My father has a smartphone and I wait for him to come back from work to attend online classes,” said Muskan Taj Sagar, a class 6 student at a government school in Ijari Lakamapu, Haveri. The situation is similar in Gadag, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Haveri and parts of Belagavi and night-time classes have become routine here. Teachers said they have been conducting classes according to students’ convenience.
Haveri DDPI Andaneppa Vadageri said: “To ensure students do not miss any class, our teachers are taking sessions in the evening.”
